Holy Week – Holy Saturday – We Wait
Today as the Lord rested from all His work, the disciples scattered for fear of being arrested, and then the strangest request happens: the Roman guards wanted to guard the tomb? Why?
Even people that mock God, deep in their core, aren’t sure if there is or isn’t a God. We were created with a void that can only be filled by Jesus. And so it was for the reasoning behind the Roman leaders. No one really believed that the scared hiding disciple would steal Jesus’ body. They weren’t 100% sure what was going to happen.
Don’t give up on people, they need God!
Here is the reasoning for the guards:
“The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.””
Matthew 27:62-64 NIV
In Chris Tomlin’s son “Even So Come,” the words express our time of waiting:
So we wait
We wait for You
God we wait
You’re coming soon
Waiting for her groom
We’ll be a church
Ready for You
Every heart longing for our King
We sing
Waiting for her groom
We’ll be a church
(We’ll be) Ready for You
Every heart longing for our King
We sing
Even so come
Lord Jesus come
