As I have taken our church down a rather lengthy sermon series (47 sermons to date), through the book of John, I have come to the last sermon that I will preach in this series (sermon # 48), this upcoming Sunday, Dec 14. The book of John has been fascinating to dig into. He is a short recap of all 21 chapters.
Chapter 1 – John tells us that Jesus is the living Word
Chapter 2 – Jesus performs His first miracle by changing water into wine
Chapter 3 – Jesus says that “one must be born again”
Chapter 4 – Jesus encounters the woman at the well, so He could explain to her that He is the living water
Chapter 5 – Jesus explains the authority that has been given to Him
Chapter 6 – Jesus feed the thousands with a few fish and a few bread loaves
Chapter 7 – Jesus begins preaching the Kingdom of God, thus the controversy follows
Chapter 8 – Jesus boldly says “I am the Light of the World”
Chapter 9 – Jesus heals the blind man, but reveals the spiritual blindness of the world
Chapter 10 – Jesus accuses Satan of stealing, killing, and destroying, while claiming the full life
Chapter 11 – Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead
Chapter 12 – Mary anoints Jesus by pouring perfume on Jesus feet, while wiping it with her hair
Chapter 13 – Jesus washes the disciples feet reminding them that He came as a servant leader
Chapter 14 – Jesus exclaims that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, while promising the coming of the Holy Spirit
Chapter 15 – Jesus says He is the vine and we are the branches, and we are to show the world how much Jesus loves us by loving each other
Chapter 16 – Jesus explains the work of the Holy Spirit, and He comforts us with peace
Chapter 17 – Jesus prays for Himself, His current followers, and His future followers
Chapter 18 – Jesus is arrested, while Peter denies Jesus 3 times
Chapter 19 – Jesus is sentenced, crucified, dies, and is buried
Chapter 20 – Jesus rises from the grave, and makes His first resurrection appearance
Chapter 21 – Jesus makes His final appearance to challenge His followers to spread the Gospel
